October eNews – Indonesia

Solo Ecclesia in central Java is the largest group of Christadelphians in Indonesia. But it is tiny compared to the vast majority of Muslim followers in this fourth most populated country in the world.

Solo Ecclesia has a full range of activities: Weekly: Memorial Meeting, Sunday School, Youth meeting; Monthly: Bible Class, Sisters’ Class. Two major activities are held yearly: a Study Day in January, and a Study Week in July. Visitors from Australia generally join the Ecclesia for these two activities, and 2025 was no different.

The topic for Study Day 2025 was the Parables of Jesus – describing the meanings and the implications in our lives. This was very successful, with good engagement on the material, and a great opportunity for fellowship as well.

The 2025 Solo Study Week was held in late June. Three studies on the theme of “Men of Faith” covered the lives of Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph. The final exhortation brought out the faithfulness of these three men, and the fact that they lived in hope of the promises God had made to them, not receiving the promises during their own lives, but looking forward to a future time. We have the same need for faith in these last days as we also wait Jesus’ return from heaven. A home Bible Class was one of the other activities held during the Study Week.

The best part of Study Week 2025 was three baptisms. Three refugees in Jakarta awaiting resettlement (a married couple from Iran with two children, and a single Afghani man) were baptized during the week. These three were put in touch with Bro David Budiman by Bro Afshin (Alex) Ahmad Panah, previously a refugee in Indonesia, but now resettled in Australia. All were dissatisfied with the focus of Indonesian Christian churches on the Trinity. It was very exciting for the brothers and sisters of Solo, as well as the visitors, to see the enthusiasm for our faith from these refugees who believe they have truly found a pearl of great price. Our prayers are with them in their new life in Christ. May God guide and lead them through the significant challenges their situation in life brings each day.

Visitors to Indonesia are always welcome at Solo Ecclesia. Indonesia is a major tourist destination, so why not take the opportunity if visiting the country, to spend some time with the Ecclesia? They would love to see you. For more information, please contact indonesia@acbm.org.au.
