The abiding power of the Gospel call has again been evident in Bangladesh. P. and B., after much reading of scripture, discussion and meditation, were baptized in Dhaka on Sep. 22. In the very difficult economic and social circumstances of this country, their decision to enter into the household of faith has special meaning in terms of commitment and resolve. They need our most earnest prayers, as indeed do all the members of the ecclesia in Bangladesh (see this month’s cover photograph). They truly believe that the Lord who so graciously called them will be their guide and defender, no matter what the circumstance. The baptisms of Bro. P. and Bro. B., with their youthful abilities, talents, and enthusiasm, will be such an encouragement to the ecclesia here, including especially the younger members.
Furthermore, they will be a great help as the ecclesia endeavours to reach out to the remarkable number of people seeking instruction at our various Bible studies in Dhaka, and in country areas. The appeal of the Gospel, no matter how difficult the situation, testifies to its universal answer to the basic human need for salvation and redemption. Such recent encouraging baptisms surely serve to rekindle our desire and prayer to be led to others, wherever they might be, who will also treasure the pearl of great price. In this great work all true disciples believe that the Lord “by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).
