At this point the most notable news from ACBM regions has been the impact of the COVID-19 Crisis.

Corona Virus Cases Have resulted in:

  • Income and Job losses
  • Food shortages and rising food costs
  • Fieldworkers being sent home
  • Difficulties accessing meetings
  • Cancelled events and gatherings
Other countries where the ACBM operates COVID19 has seen a much smaller impact with less than 500 people in each who have contracted the virus.  In Pacific Island countries the impact is quite low indeed. Cambodia is claiming to be COVID19 free.

  • In Chiang Mai, the Bible Education Centre was vacated in the middle of March as fieldworkers made a premature return to Australia.
  • The spread of covid-19 infections appears to be slowing in Thailand so restrictions may soon be easing there.
  • We have only 2 local, ecclesial members remaining in Chiang Mai. As of writing, both local members are safe and healthy.

  • Tighter restrictions are in place than in Aus/NZ making it hard for Ecclesia to gain encouragement by meeting.
  • Many either lack the technology or good internet connection which has allowed Aus/NZ Ecclesias to continue to communicate under restrictions
  • Many members haven't been able to work and therefore had no pay to support their families.
  • Sunday School prizegivings would normally held around this time, and cannot be run. Relief parcels may replace prizes this year.
  • End of years Family Fraternals (Bible Schools) held in Dec. may require local speakers if visitors cannot support.
