Sisters Class during the Covid restrictions
|
Indonesia The past year has been challenging for our brothers and sisters in Indonesia. COVID-19 impacted significantly on incomes, and welcome food parcels provided relief to many during the lockdown period. The Chinese vaccine is now rolling out but will take many months reaching the massive population. Some members and relatives contracted COVID, and we give thanks that all have recovered. The Solo recorder, Bro Boby, passed away during April 2020, and his enthusiasm and energy are still being missed. Even so come, Lord Jesus!

In Solo, meetings continued in small home groups during lockdown. Most regular activities have now resumed at their hall. Since Study Week 2020 and Study Day 2021 were cancelled, a Christmas event last December uplifted their spirits. In a Muslim country, Christmas is the only time Christians can be more open about their faith so we encourage them to take advantage of this. In February, the youth enjoyed and appreciated a full day excursion.

Our hearts were touched by two baptisms during March, thankful that even in these times the Gospel message is still changing lives. In Jakarta, our 3 Iranian refugees have been particularly impacted by a total standstill in refugee placements, diminished financial support, and some adverse feelings against refugees from the locals. Financial support is being provided, and regular spiritual encouragement by weekly Zoom meetings with some of our Jakarta members has been very valuable.
