VANUATU — Cyclone Harold Appeal — Thank you

We have had a wonderful response to our appeal for help as a means of meeting the damage and devastation of Cyclone Harold, across the islands of Vanuatu and amongst our ecclesial families.

Over $30,000 has been raised by donations from individuals and Ecclesias to meet the needs of rebuilding and supplying the means to establish new crops and purchase basic food requirements where necessary in the short term.

‌

The money provided is now getting through to the brethren who are managing the relief effort and work has begun. For more than two months now everyone has been living in shelters made from the debris and broken building materials of their old homes. The brothers and sisters have expressed their thanks and we have included their letters and a translation of Bislama along with this update.

Thankfully there are no Covid-19 cases in Vanuatu. This is chiefly because of the total restriction of international travel to the islands. However, this is now a new problem because the small South Pacific countries are so dependant on the tourist industry as part of their national economies. The next few months will reveal how much help is required to assist our fami-lies in the ecclesias throughout the region.
