Dear ,

Our headline area this month is Pakistan

Pakistan is the sixth most populous country in the world with 190 million people, packed into land the size of New South Wales.
Although more than 60 regional languages are spoken, Urdu is the national language and is understood by over 75% of Pakistanis.

About 97% of Pakistanis are Muslim. The majority are Sunni, with an estimated 5–20% Shi’a. A further 2.3% are Ahmadis.
Although they are granted freedom to practice their religion, Christians in Pakistan suffer much violence and persecution. Covid has been particularly challenging because millions are day labourers or work in small businesses. The Government imposed lockdowns meant little work and little food for many families.

During last week Pakistan Meteorological Department’s weather prediction for light to moderate rain on Thursday completely missed its mark as heavy showers pounded the metropolis for hours, leaving nearly 23 dead, besides completely submerging roads and underpasses.

On Thursday 27 August, the city received more than 223mm of rain in a 12-hour period, the country’s meteorological department said, the highest seen in a single day since records began 89 years ago. More than 484mm of rain has fallen in August so far, according to the data, more than 10 times the monthly average.

We can remember them in our prayers at this challenging time.

Karachi Floods

Many Christadelphian families who had moved to their relatives, were caught in the heavy rain this morning as they have returned to see their houses. Rumors had been spreading in Whatsapp groups that houses were being looted. It has been decided now that some brothers will stay behind to look after the vacant homes.

You can see many photos in news but I have attached some photos of the al-Fatah colony where  250 Brethren & Sisters lives in the same area.

They cannot use their ecclesial hall for the time being as it has been flooded for the fourth time in four weeks.

While Government help is provided it is generally given only to Muslims, with Christians and other religions being refused help.

On the ACBM website there is video of the flooding at the al-fatah area. The commentary is in Urdu language, but the video tells the story.
