Dear ,

Sri Lanka

2020 started vigorously in the Sri Lankan brotherhood with the well supported annual Bible School based on the study of Nehemiah. Baptisms of 3 young people followed soon afterward and it looked like it was going to be an enthusiastic year of preaching and growth in the ecclesias. There are still quite a few refugee brothers and sisters from Pakistan and Iran in Sri Lanka.

A number of fieldworker visits followed in January and February and then the Covid 19 exploded onto an unsuspecting world.  These may well be the last visits by overseas visitors for quite some time and this year’s Bible School was planned to be help by zoom, but even this may not be possible as a ‘second wave’ has just hit Sri Lanka and the government has ordered another complete ‘lock down’. The effect of the virus was initially to see brothers and sisters logging into Perth ecclesias for their memorial meetings and then developing to the point of having their own zoom meetings,

occasionally using Perth brothers for their exhortation through translation. This has developed a closer relationship between Sri Lankan brothers and sisters and Perth ecclesias.  They had just opened their meeting places a few weeks ago and now they have had to close down again. Due to the shutdown of businesses, there has been a much greater need for urgent welfare relief in a country where there is no government support.
