Pakistan

In a country where open preaching is not permitted, one wonders how the Good News can spread.  But the Word of God is powerful, and zeal and passion to share the message with family, friends and neighbours, has seen the words of Acts 19:20 come true again – “So the word of God grew mightily, and PREVAILED”. Over 300 baptisms over the past 12 months is testimony to God’s increase – as the brothers and sisters sow and water.

Afghanistan

The work has been quietly moving forward over the past decade or so, with over 70 brothers and sisters in 4 areas when the Taliban regained control in August 2021.  In the years leading up to this time there had been several martyrdoms among our members, with survivors of attacks usually fleeing to other areas.  Since the takeover, there have been six deaths among our members or their families.  Homes have been attacked and properties seized.

Currently about 40 brothers and sisters are still in Afghanistan, mostly in hiding, plus 30 in western Pakistan (with many children and young people), and 16 among the families who fled to Iran.

In neighbouring western Pakistan, we have recently leased a building we call “The Haven.” Supervised by widowed sisters, we have 30 people accommodated here, mostly young ladies given into our care to protect them from being used as reward brides to Taliban fighters.

And so we are reminded of the words of Hebrews 11 concerning the faithful: “they wandered about … being destitute, afflicted, tormented - of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts, and mountains …”
