Thailand

Though daily COVID infection rates in Thailand are still fairly high (averaging around 20,000), the country is attempting to move on from the harsh restrictions of the past two years through efforts to kick-start economic activity.

Our two sisters and brother in Chiang Mai are able to independently meet their daily needs and they continue to be in good spirits. Our Sister Ang, in particular, attends several Bible classes, including a bi-weekly sisters’ class with several Western sisters, as well as the weekly Zoom Memorial Meeting.

Myanmar

Despite the incredible difficulties and personal hardships of the last two years in Myanmar, our brothers and sisters there are growing both in physical number and in spiritual maturity.  In January 2022, 3 people, a 24 year old man, his 20 year old wife, and a 27 year old woman, were baptised into the saving name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  All are former Buddhists and were introduced to the saving Gospel by one of our brothers in Yangon.  The married couple work in the industrial sector in Yangon and often are required to work 7 days a week, so will not be able to join the Zoom Memorial Meeting held each week, but will meet with a brother later on the Sunday.

For some months now, this same brother has also been running a Sunday School for up to 15 children.  He  began the Sunday School when he began to care for about 10 children from his home village “up-country”.

In Myanmar, the pandemic has been greatly complicated by the military coup which is now two months into its second year.  With no resolution in sight, uncertainty about the future has stagnated most of Myanmar’s economy.  For those who have lost jobs, there is virtually no prospect of regaining them or even of finding other employment.  Not only are people finding it hard to put rice and vegetables on the table, but they have little to do other than tend to their own needs and the needs of other household members.

As a consequence, most of our members are now being provided with monthly support.  Fortunately, the numbers are not great and we are able to meet those needs within our budget.
