Loas is one of the least developed countries in the world. It has a population of 6.5 million, the majority ethnic group being the Lao people (60%). The main religions are Buddhist and traditional. Only 50% of the population speak Lao, the national language. French is still commonly used by Government, and all signage is bi-lingual French-Lao. 30% of the country’s students are still educated in French.
Advertising is tightly controlled by the government, who do not permit advertisements of a religious nature in local newspapers. There is currently no preaching work undertake in Laos.
